ASME Singapore Section and its student sections from National University of Singapore (NUS) and Nanyang Technological University (NTU) are collaborating with Housing Development Board (HDB) to organize a series of design competitions on “Cool Ideas for Better HDB Living” for the students from local universities, polytechnics and Junior Colleges.

This competition aims to solicit ideas from our student community that can enhance HDB-living in Singapore. 

The official signing of the collaboration agreement with HDB was held on 3 January 2012, 9.30am at HDB Hub at Toa Payoh. Dr. Desmond Chong (Chair), Mr. Henry Wong (Chair-elect), Dr. Choo Jian Huei (Secretary) and Dr. Eileen Fong (NTU student section advisor), attended the ceremony together with student representatives from the NUS and NTU Student Sections.

The ceremony started with introduction of the ASME committee to various HDB representatives. Managing Director of the HDB Building Research Institute, Er. Lau Joo Ming, welcomed the ASME representatives with a short opening address, followed by a short speech by Dr. Desmond Chong, ASME Singapore Section Chair. After which, the signing ceremony commenced, proceeded by a brief photo-taking session and tea reception. The event ended at 11.30am.

Separate competitions within the “Design Competition for Students – Cool Ideas for Better HDB Living 2012” will be taking place from October 2011 to August 2012 to target the different groups of students.
